If you have ever seen the movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, then you remember when Clark Griswold covered his house with 25,000 light bulbs. Well, should you want to copy him this holiday season, one national real estate company has figured out what it would cost you.
Based on data from the United States Energy Information Administration, Estately determined that if you wanted to light up your house in the state of Pennsylvania for five hours a day for a total of 31 days with incandescent bulbs, exactly like Griswold, it would cost you $3,844. However, if you decided to go with a more modern look and chose LED bulbs, it would only cost you $44.
In the state of New Jersey, things are a little more expensive, as stringing up 25,000 incandescent bulbs would run you $4,383 and 25,000 LED bulb would cost you $50.
The most expensive state to run all of these lights is Hawaii, where it would cost $7,552 for incandescent bulbs and $86 for LED ones.
